IEP Audit services now available for schools

Dear Directors and Administrators,

Many struggles face us as we try to carve out meaningful time for school staff to reflect on policies and practices. Therefore, it is even more important to rethink a “one-size-fits-all” delivery of professional development.

One way to target meaningful trainings is to individually craft training sessions based on school needs. NJCIE offers this kind of service through an IEP Audit.

After a review of IEPs that have been written by district staff for your own students, the district will be presented with a summary of strengths and needs based on the body of IEPs created by district staff. In this way, the patterns of need can be addressed specific to your district, and staff can also be acknowledged for strengths within the process of IEP writing and documentation.

The IEP Audit can narrow the training topics that need to be addressed in professional development sessions, preserving time for meaningful professional dialogue and discussion that targets a district goal for improvement. Focused trainings, delivered in a two-hour session and based on the IEP Audit, can be provided to Child Study Team members from the knowledge of where the district conversation needs to grow and develop.

Audit summaries will be presented to the district through a slideshow presentation, and the meeting would result in a professional development action plan to address audit findings.

The IEP Audit would take about a month for review and summary reporting. Audits conducted in the summer would result in professional development action plans that can be provided in the fall, winter, and spring of the following school year. Audits conducted in the fall would result in professional development action plans that could be delivered in the winter or spring of the school year.

Based on the information gathered through the audit and the administrative planning session, up to two presentations related to audit findings could accompany this professional development opportunity.
