What parents are saying about NJCIE:
I wanted to thank you so much for the NJCIE and Mary Ann Comparetto especially.
My daughter has Down Syndrome and goes to our local Elementary School.
At the back to school night I was appalled at how long she was pulled out during the school day. I left shaking.
I had seen an email from the NJCIE about a parent chat that was happening the next day.
I emailed Mary Ann that night asking her if it was not too late to join. She replied right away and signed me up. That alleviated some anxiety from the shock of my daughter’s pull-outs.
The phone chat lasted an hour. Mary Ann offered further help. I sent her my daughter’s IEP, she reviewed it, emailed me suggestions, spoke with me on the phone several times, and sent me many resources.
She truly empowered me. I followed her advice. I requested an IEP meeting and consultation services.
The school was willing to work with us and reached out to NJCIE for training on inclusive education.
I feel that I was heard in the IEP meeting and was able to educate the team on the inclusion model. I am surprised at their lack of knowledge regarding including disabled children into the general education classroom. I will continue to advocate for my daughter.
Mary Ann has been invaluable in this process. I thank God for her and the NJCIE.
A Dedicated Mom
